Inasmuch Foundation Announces

$2.08 Million in Grants to Oklahoma Organizations

 (Oklahoma City) --- Robert J. Ross, President and CEO of Inasmuch Foundation, announced today the distribution of $2.08 million in grants to 41 organizations in Oklahoma.

 Edith Kinney Gaylord founded Inasmuch Foundation in 1982 to support charitable, scientific and educational causes that enhance the progress and quality of life for Oklahomans. Today, the Foundation is committed to carrying on the interests of its late founder by giving to education, health and human services, cultural organizations, the arts, historic preservation and environmental concerns.         

 Organizations awarded grants from Inasmuch Foundation include: 

 

  • $250,000 to Friends of the Oklahoma Museum of History for development of an exhibit on the Haozous/Houser family, telling the artistic Apache family’s story from the 1880s into the 21st century.

   

  • $250,000 to United Way of Central Oklahoma for renovation of its future headquarter building at 28th and McKinley in Oklahoma City.

 

  • $200,000 to Oklahoma Chapter of the Nature Conservancy for start-up expenses for the Blue River Project in Johnston County, a plan to restore and conserve the last free flowing river in the state.

           

  • $192,940 to University of Central Oklahoma for two pilot Student Living Learning Communities to help freshmen with low entrance exam scores and unclear academic focus find success by attending classes and living with 25 peers; and to bring 25 international and traditional students together to attend classes, live and travel. The communities will test student retention strategies.

           

  • $100,000 to KIPP Reach Academy Charter School.

 

  • $100,000 to First Tee of Metropolitan Oklahoma City to build a facility that includes offices, Life Skills Teaching Center, driving range, 3 golf holes, practice putting green, short game area and a 9-hole putting course.

           

  • $100,000 to Oklahoma Zoological Society for the new Children's Zoo, covering 2 1/2 acres within the Oklahoma City Zoo.

     

  • $75,000 to World Neighbors for program expansion of World Neighbors in the Classroom, delivering curriculum to resource poor schools in urban and rural Oklahoma.

           

  • $65,000 to Oklahoma Children's Theatre to adapt a former dance studio to a theatre for young audiences and for the first season of productions and classes in the new space.

           

  • $60,000 to TEEM, The Education and Employment Ministry, for program support; includes education, job placement, employment readiness training and intensive case management.

           

  • $50,000 to KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory.

           

  • $50,000 to Youth & Family Services of North Central Oklahoma for construction of a new facility for the youth shelter.

     

  • $36,000 to Chabad Jewish Center of Greater Oklahoma City for the Chabad Community Center for Jewish Life and Learning.

 

  • $25,000 to Regional AIDS InterCommunity Network for Volunteer/Outreach Program. The volunteer program increases HIV positive clients’ access to resources; the outreach program provides prevention education to populations not currently infected.

 

  • Grants ranging from $29,000 to $36,000 include Celebrations Preschool, Community Literacy Centers, Executive Service Corps of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma League for the Blind, Oklahoma Outreach Foundation, Tulsa Ballet, United Way of Central Oklahoma and Infant Crisis Services.

 

  • Grants ranging from $15,000 to $29,000 include Creative Oklahoma, Family and Children’s Services, Sisters of Benedict at Red Plains Monastery, Villa Teresa School, Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, Vietnamese American Association, YWCA of Southern Oklahoma, Armed Services YMCA of Lawton/Fort Sill and Chickasaw Regional Library System.

 

  • Grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 include Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Arts Council of Oklahoma City, Lincoln County Historical Society, Project Woman Coalition, Shiloh Summer Camp, Tulsa Area United Way, Chisholm Trail Arts Council, Hobart Community Foundation, Tree Bank, KISS Institute for Practical Robotics and Muskogee Little Theatre.
