Inasmuch Foundation Announces $2.97 Million in Grants to Oklahoma Organizations

(Oklahoma City) --- Robert J. Ross, President and CEO of Inasmuch Foundation, announced today the distribution of $2.97 million in grants to 46 organizations in Oklahoma. Edith Kinney Gaylord founded Inasmuch Foundation in 1982 to support charitable, scientific and educational causes that enhance the progress and quality of life for Oklahomans. Today, the Foundation is committed to carrying on the interests of its late founder by giving to education, health and human services, cultural organizations, the arts, historic preservation and environmental concerns.

 

Organizations awarded grants from Inasmuch Foundation include:

  • $500,000 to Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma for expansion of the distribution center in south Oklahoma City.

  • $315,000 to Oklahoma City Museum of Art for the Museum's 2007-08 exhibition season and for busing and transportation costs for Oklahoma students.

  • $300,000 to Myriad Gardens Foundation for renovation of the Water Stage, including improved seating, enhanced technical facilities, controlled access, and canopies installed over the audience and stage.

  • $285,000 to Smart Start Central Oklahoma for the READY! for Kindergarten program currently being piloted in Oklahoma City and Putnam City public schools; the Reach Out and Read program, and the public engagement campaign.

  • $150,000 to Children's Center for the Pediatric Medical Rehabilitation Unit for the Acute Rehabilitation Program.

  • $100,000 to Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma (Lawton) for construction of the first phase of an in-patient hospice home.

  • $100,000 to Last Frontier Council - Boy Scouts of America for capital improvement projects at Camp Kickapoo.

  • $100,000 to McCall's Chapel School (Ada) for renovation of two cottages.

  • $100,000 to Oklahoma Partnership for School Readiness Foundation for Innovative Grant requests submitted by community coalitions.

  • $100,000 to Preservation Oklahoma for renovation of the Overholser Mansion.

  • $100,000 to YWCA of Oklahoma City for Crisis Services, including Passageway Emergency Shelter and children's services.

     

  • $50,000 to Girl Scouts – Red Lands Council for volunteer development program, including marketing campaign targeting Hispanic and African American communities, a mentoring program, leadership coaching, and a volunteer coordinator.

  • $50,000 to United Way of Central Oklahoma for Central Oklahoma Turning Point to publish the Strong and Healthy Oklahoma Guide Book, a health guide with information and resources.

  • $50,000 to Variety Health Center for medical supplies and lab tests for pediatric patients.

  • $40,000 to Sunbeam Family Services for Tony Reyes Bilingual Child Development Center expansion to provide eight slots for children in Early Head Start. The Center is housed in the Latino Community Development Agency.

  • $39,000 to Seminole Nation Historical Society for software, computer hardware and personnel to accurately document and register the permanent collection of the Seminole Nation Musuem.

  • $30,000 to Executive Service Corps of Central Oklahoma for expansion of services. ESCCO has an active roster of more than 50 retired middle and upper level management volunteers who provide business management consulting services for nonprofit agencies, schools and government entities.

  • $30,000 to Possibilities to support capacity building work with school sites and their surrounding communities, assisting stakeholders in developing and carrying out strategic plans to address needs, increase participation, build leadership and mobilize resources.

  • $25,000 to A Chance to Change Foundation for A Chance to Succeed, a program providing free education to parents and middle and high school staff about alcohol and drug use among adolescents.

  • $25,000 to Center for Nonprofits for rollout of Oklahoma Standards for Excellence program, an ethics and accountability code for the nonprofit sector.

  • $25,000 to National Four-String Banjo Hall of Fame Museum (Guthrie) for purchase of the Dierk Frerichs collection of nearly 200 banjos.

     

  • $12,500 to Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation for operational expenses for John Marshall: Steps for Success, a community committee organized to conduct a broad and comprehensive assessment of the new John Marshall High School to determine how the new school can best serve students and patrons.

  • $12,500 to Citizens Caring for Children for the Resource Center, a program that offers clothing, school supplies, books and toys to foster children living in the Oklahoma City Metro area.

  • Grants ranging from $30,000 to $100,000 include Oklahoma Arts Institute, St. Simeon’s Foundation, Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church, Western Oklahoma State College, Western Plains Youth & Family Services, and YWCA Tulsa.

  • Grants ranging from $16,000 to $30,000 include Chisholm Trail Heritage Center, Philbrook Museum of Art, Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges, Families for Excellence in Education, Mount St. Mary High School, and Guild of St. George.

  • Grants ranging from $2,500 to $16,000 include Canterbury Choral Society, Leadership Oklahoma, Prevent Blindness Oklahoma, Youth Cornerstone, Marshall County Family Support Services, Meals on Wheels of Norman, Windsong Chamber Choir, St. Mary’s Catholic School, Neighbor for Neighbor of Oklahoma City, Chamber Music Tulsa and Tonkawa Renovation.
