Inasmuch Foundation announces $437,500 in awards

OKLAHOMA CITY – Inasmuch Foundation announced today the distribution of $437,500 in grants to 14 organizations serving Colorado Springs.

Inasmuch Foundation, founded by Edith Kinney Gaylord in 1982, supports education, health and human services and community enhancement initiatives that enrich the quality of life for Oklahomans. The foundation carries on its late founder’s interest in Colorado Springs by giving to nonprofits that are located in and directly serve the residents of the city.

“Inasmuch Foundation is dedicated to continuing Edith’s passion of improving the lives of others.  Our grants support organizations that share her passion” said Bob Ross, President and CEO of Inasmuch Foundation.  “We encourage everyone to join us in supporting these outstanding grantees as they strive to make a difference in our community.”

Grants were awarded to organizations for projects addressing the foundation’s areas of interest as follows: 

Education

  • $75,000 to University of Colorado Colorado Springs for the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences capital campaign.
  • $20,000 to Center for Nonprofit Excellence to increase organizational capacity and strengthen the operational effectiveness of nonprofits in the Pikes Peak region.

Health and Human Services 

  • $175,000 to Innovations in Aging Collaborative to develop pilot programs, build community awareness and expand community partnerships.
  • $25,000 to Silver Key Senior Services to provide advocacy for victims of elder abuse and to increase communication and collaboration among those serving seniors in the community.
  • $20,000 to Penrose-St. Francis Health Foundation to assist CARES program participants with direct mental health/substance abuse services and follow-up support.
  • $10,000 to Franciscan Community Counseling to provide mental health counseling to uninsured and underinsured low income children and families.
  • $10,000 to Kidpower of Colorado for interpersonal safety education workshops that serve children from low-income, at-risk families.
  • $7,500 to Homeward Pikes Peak for rental of motel rooms and intensive case management for homeless families wanting to get off the streets.
  • $5,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado – Pikes Peak for participatory and spectator sports activities for 40 boys and their adult male volunteer mentors.
  • $5,000 to Greccio Housing for the Resident Enrichment Program, a safety net program to help residents maintain self-sufficiency.

Community Enhancement

  • $30,000 to Theatreworks for a full-time development director, board development, brand development, and increased community awareness.
  • $25,000 to Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum for public engagement and education efforts.
  • $20,000 to Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra for a challenge grant to help attract new and increased donor pledges.
  • $10,000 to Rocky Mountain Field Institute to protect and restore the ecology of Garden of the Gods Park by engaging the community in hands-on stewardship projects.
